Random 500 errors

For the last couple weeks I've been randomly getting status 500 errors from the elevation API. When the error occurs, sending the request a 2nd time generally works (otherwise a 3rd will). Other times it may work 10 times in a row. The error message doesn't show the problem:

"Error processing request: null Please see the documentation for the Elevation Service at http://open.mapquestapi.com/elevation/ for details on correctly formatting requests."

I've confirmed the requests are identical when the 1st fails and the 2nd succeeds, and both POST and GET requests show the error. Here's an example:

https://open.mapquestapi.com/elevation/v1/profile?key=MY_KEY&json=%7Blat...

Thanks Brian. The only message is the one about "null" above. It's been happening for a couple weeks. Do you have any way to look at the 500 errors associated with my account and see what's causing them?

This is a service not available to non-Enterprise Edition users. If you're interested in becoming an Enterprise Edition user, use the Contact Us link in the upper right. I tried doing a quick trace but did not see any failured requests with your key come in during the 10 minute trace. All 5 seemed to return a successful response with appropriate data.

Brian,

Thanks for your help. I hope this helps narrow it down. I just tried 12 identical requests and had this 500 failure twice. The request (pasted below) at 15:52:34 PT and 15:59:58 PT are the ones that failed.

Same error message as before, "Error processing request: null Please see the documentation for the Elevation Service at http://open.mapquestapi.com/elevation/ for details on correctly formatting requests."

Our authentication layer

Our authentication layer (Apigee) monitors show a batch of 500 responses on Sunday morning MT. Other than that there's just a smattering over the past week. Is that when you saw the problem?

Can you post a sample request that is returning a 500 for you?
